The Mini-Note oozes confidence and a company at the top of its game. The style and finish is high-end and everything, put simply, just works.

Weighing 1.27kg, it's a heavy machine but the feel of the device is reassuringly robust. The keyboard is close to full size - HP claims it's 92 per cent the same - and is an absolute pleasure to use. The battery pack sticks out of the bottom, which makes it a pain to carry, but when it delivers well over three hours of juice, we're more than satisfied.

The only let down is the choice of processor; the VIA CF-7M, which is slow to run multiple applications. However, with 2048MB of memory, (and 120Gb storage) there is enough headroom to handle Windows Vista reasonably well.

True, this notebook can't compete with the original Eee PC on price but it's not trying to. If you want style, sophistication without making compromises, the Mini-Note PC is the only choice for you.

Just three days ago was one of the greatest days for modern flying enthusiasts. Those of them and many others who were lucky to be on the Tuesday 29th at the annual air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, could see the first public demonstration of the latest jetpack. Glenn Martin is the inventor from New Zealand who made his child dreams about flying come true. Now, when the flying gadget is considered safe, it is going to be prepared to be put up for sale. Most probably that it will happen next year when every person interested will be able get a personal jetpack.

From the age of five Glenn Martin thought of a private gadget that will allow ultimate mobility for him. He started to fulfill his dream when was 20 years old and it took him 27 years to build a fully manageable jetpack from scratch. No need to say how proud he was to present it to a rumbling crowd. 27 years is a considerable period. Many configurations of the jetpack were revised and the final one is of the 11th assemblage.

Glenn Martin was not alone to strive in competition against gravity. His family and friends helped him, encouraged him and even were brave enough to test the gadget. Mr. Martin’s son Harrison is the main test pilot. He is 16 now and has learned to fly before he has learned to drive. Harrison was also the one who run the jetpack at the air show in Oshkosh.

Don’t think about science fiction’s examples of jetpacks. In fact the Mr. Martin’s invention isn’t quite a jetpack to be straight. It doesn’t have a jet engine. This gadget is powered a little differently. Namely it is a very common internal combustion engine. Carrying power is produced by two large superchargers, or simply fans, drove by the above-named engine. Fully equipped jetpack, lets call it so anyway, weights 250 pounds or approximately 110 kilograms. The thrust provided by two fans altogether is about 600 pounds or 270 kilograms. To increase safety and stability, centre of mass is placed as low against the fans as possible. It creates a sort of pendulum effect. The jetpack is also equipped with shock absorbers for smoother landing and less vibration and with a small parachute just in case. Glen Martin himself confirms that it is not too complicated to handle the jet as soon as you are self responsible and not going to do something reckless.

To see the advantages of the recent invention we should compare it with other jetpacks. Practically neither of them before could stay in air for more then some minutes. Mr. Martin’s can fly for half an hour. About its abilities he says that they haven’t been pushed to a limit yet, but before going on sale, jetpack will face an enormous test of getting to a 500 feet height which is about 150 meters. That job he is not going to commit to his son Harrison. If everything will be OK, then we will see this jetpack in stores for 100,000 USD in 2009.

Design and controls
Both phones look very similar, both are made in form-factor of sliders. However, while N95 can slide in two positions, revealing multimedia buttons or number keys, i8510 is limited to usual one way of sliding. It is hard to tell, whether this is an advantage of N95, but it definitely is an original way to control your music or other media functions on the phone. Aside from two soft keys and dial / reject buttons under them, there are two unlabeled areas that look like buttons. Even considering them as unknown buttons, N95 has two times more buttons on its front, 8 buttons opposed to 4 in Nokia i8510. Both phones have 5-directional navigational button.

The F210 is a great phone concept. It's a phone/music player/camera in a tiny lightweight package. Weighting just 72g, it's fantastically light and it's so compact you risk losing it in your handbag! The secret to its tiny size is the swivel design. As you can see from the photo, when closed the F210 resembles an iPod Nano, with an LCD screen and metal jog dial showing. With the jog dial and side volume controls you can access the music functions even with the phone closed. When you want to make a call, you flick the phone and it spins open to reveal a full keypad. We're delighted to see that the keypad has a regular 3-column layout, unlike the F210's predecessor, the X830, which had a 2-column layout and was harder to use. It's narrower than typical phones, but the keys are a good size and pose no problems. Overall it's a really nice phone to use. The user interface changes depending on whether the phone is open or closed to display phone menus or music menus. The styling is gorgeous with the metallic edging and jog dial, and the use of specially-designed stunning screen graphics. If you want to, you can hang the phone around your neck, with the "lanyard", a kind of one-piece necklace that also holds your earphones.

The F210 is a great music player. It can handle all popular music formats including full Digital Rights Management. The Music Library makes it easy to manage your music and create playlists on the go. You can use the built-in equaliser to adjust sound quality. Audio playback through the loudspeaker can sound a bit tinny, but plug in headphones or use a set of wireless Bluetooth headphones, and you can listen to high quality music. The phone comes equipped with 1 Gbyte of flash memory, which is enough to store around 250 songs. In addition this can be expanded to a total of 3 Gbytes by adding a microSD memory card (up to 2 Gbytes). This would be enough for around 750 songs, making the F210 into a replacement for an iPod Nano.

As well as the music player, the F210 also has a built-in FM radio. This is equipped with RDS (Radio Data System), which displays the station ID, radio show name, song title, artist and more. Samsung have introduced a cool feature into the F210: use the built-in sound recorder to record a few seconds of any song that you're listening to, and the system will identify the artist and song for you. This is very similar to Sony Ericsson's TrackID™, used on its Walkman phones.

There was a time when anyone looking to a BlackBerry to deliver their mobile email was going to have to carry a fairly large and not too pretty device around, and know that while their pocket computer was good at email it wasn't good at much else. No music playback and no camera, for example. The combination of staid looks and feature-deprivation was enough of a double whammy for some to avoid the BlackBerry altogether.

Then BlackBerry maker Research In Motion decided it could do more. It started adding features to devices and making them prettier too, in a bid to appeal to out-and-out consumers and those business people who like a bit of style. So, this year we've seen the arrival of the QWERTY-keyboarded Curve and, just before the that, the candybar style BlackBerry Pearl.
There still are the larger format devices, and most recently of all I reviewed the 8820, which I've been using thanks to RIM ever since penning the review back in August. But with the Pearl 8120 I think I am going to switch allegiance. The original Pearl didn't quite do it for me. I hated SureType (which I'll get to properly in a couple of paragraphs), and the features on the device just weren't good enough to keep me happy.

But RIM has taken on board a lot of the criticisms I and others made of the original Pearl, and of BlackBerry handhelds in general, and the Pearl 8120, while not perfect, is an improvement I think many people could live with.

Also, regardless of the feature improvements, this new Pearl is a cute looking device. The colour scheme is dark blue and chrome with the latter used for the left, right and upper edges and various highlights, while the front and back fascias are predominantly blue. It is comfortable to hold, being a slimline candybar handset. The actual dimensions are 107mm tall, 50mm wide, 14mm thick and just 91g. Its metal-like finish means it feels lovely in the hand.

The small miniature trackball that sits under the screen and is used for navigation within and between applications remains as delightful as ever. It rolls comfortably under either left or right thumb. I'd like to see an auto-scroll mode implemented so that longer emails can be run through without to much ‘thumb action', though.

To the left and right of the trackball are the BlackBerry menu and back keys, and to their left and right the Call and End keys. The arrangement is unchanged from the original Pearl, and it works fine. There are also two ‘convenience keys', one on the left and one on the right edge. You can configure these to launch whichever application or device feature you want.

Like the iPhone, Samsung's Omnia aims to make Internet browsing easy, and has a wide screen for viewing video as well as music capabilities and a 5 megapixel camera. It runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile software.

The original iPhone transformed the market for so-called smartphones with computer-like functions a year ago and the industry is eager to see whether Apple can repeat its success with a new version, expected to run on faster, 3G networks. According to photographs released with a statement from Samsung, the Omnia resembles the original iPhone in its dark, shiny finish, curved edges and slim form. The phone will be unveiled at the CommunicAsia trade fair in Singapore starting June 17 and go on sale in southeast Asia that week.

Besides what we knew before, we can now tell the Xperia X1 will have a Qualcomm 7200A CPU running at 528 MHz, 128MB RAM and a nice 'n' juicy, 1500 mAh battery. Sure, we were not overwhelmed with our first gimped hands-on, but on paper it looks like this sure is one beast. The 528 MHz processor has us excited, but with it being Windows Mobile, we'll be surprised if the onboard RAM doesn't prove itself to be insufficient for heavy multitasking.

Sony Ericsson is launching a new gaming phone called the F305. It features mere EDGE speeds, a Memory Stick Micro slot, a 2-inch 176 x 220 display and music playback, a built-in accelerometer for motion controlled games. The phone also comes with game-oriented face buttons, and A2DP. The phone will be announced on the 17th. The F305 will hit Q3.

The first device from the Fun series could be Sony Ericsson F305, since details about it leaked recently on the Web. Its full list of features is not known yet, but apparently the handset will be some sort of a mini-console for playing games while on the go, hence it will come with dedicated gaming buttons. Also, were we to believe a Photoshop-made image that is said to represents the F305, the phone has a slider form factor. Furthermore, rumors say the F305 won't be a high-end device, but only a mid-to-low one, with features that include, besides gaming capabilities, FM radio, stereo speakers and other things meant to bring "fun" to its users. Well, if the F305 does indeed look like in the Photoshop image, I assume it will have lots of fans among young users. After all, they're the ones who have the most "mobile fun". While still far from the rumored PSP phone that Sony Ericsson is working (or should be working) on, the F305 seems, for the moment, a pretty nice handset. We're now waiting for June 17, when Sony Ericsson will present some of its new phones and, maybe, the F305 among them.

Sony Ericsson hasn’t announced anything interesting for a while now, but there is information on a few cool upcoming phones. Recently, the Shiho also popped up, which is the codename for the C905. It is expected to be the flagship cameraphone of the company, with 8-megapixel resolution and lots of features. Strangely, it will use Xenon flash instead of “PhotoFlash” (based on LED), which was showed in the C902 and claimed by Sony Ericsson representatives as “one that proved better than Xenon”. In contrast to what some sources claim, the Xenon cannot be used as a light source when shooting videos and a dedicated one is missing; the LED next to the lens is for focus-assistance. A new camera software feature is said to be called “Smart Contrast” and judging by its name, it will be yet another useless software image correction, but we won’t give our final opinion before we review the actual device.

The new slider will be positioned as a high-end device and like few other recent Sony Ericsson phones will feature integrated aGPS for navigation. It will be the first non-smartphone of the manufacturer to sport WiFi. C905 will also have TV-out port for previewing its photos directly on a TV.

Although a stock photo already appeared, it is unsure if Sony Ericsson C905 will be announced soon. It is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of the year, in three colors (black, gold and silver).

Sony Japan is ready to launch the Sony VAIO VGC-LA73DB. This computer boasts a 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 GB of RAM. and nVidia Geforce Go 7600 GPU, a 320GB hard drive, digital TV tuner card, and a 19 inch TFT LCD supporting a resolution of 1,680×1,050. It also supports TV recording up to 34.5 hours of programming. The VGC-LA73DB has a Blu-Ray burner and comes equipped with a fully functional remote control and wireless keyboard / mouse. Apple said it is indeed on a roll with its iPhone. The company announced today it has sold 1 million of the new phones 74 days after its launch.
Steve Jobs had said earlier that Apple forecast 1 million units by the end of the month. But they met the mark with a few weeks to spare. This comes less than a week after Apple dropped the price of its 8GB iPhone by $200 to $399, a move that angered some existing iPhone users but also raised speculation that Apple was falling behind on its sales targets.
It's hard to know right now how much the price cut contributed to Apple hitting its 1 million milestone early but you gotta think it helped. Still in less than a week's time of selling with the new price cut, Apple looked to be on its way anyway toward its goal.
"One million iPhones in 74 days - it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod," said Jobs. "We can't wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season."
Jobs said in an open letter to iPhone owners last week that Apple really wanted to "go for it" for the holidays with the price drop. Things look to be getting off to a good start. The next goal for Apple is 10 million iPhone units by the end of 2008.
